Word of the Day
Many parents have been seeing small pieces of paper going home this week. This is because we began “Word of the Day”. Each day, one student is selected to be the “Word of the Day”. That student then wears the “word” around their neck. The other students can then go up to them during their free time, free-choice and recess and spell and read the word. If they do it correctly, the “Word of the Day” gives them a small sheet of paper for them to write the word on. They then put the paper in the “Word of the Day” box. At the end of the day one paper is selected to be the “Word of the Day” the following day. All of the other papers are returned with a “smelly” sticker for the students to practice at home. Ask you child what the word for this week is. This really helps them learn the kindergarten sight words! Have them spell and read the word to you. This is an optional activity and only students who do “Word of the Day” receive the paper and a sticker, so ask you child about it.
